GiiResearch.com: IT and Telecom Vendors Racing to Deliver the Operator Cloud
Uncertainty remains among operators on how to enable differentiated cloud services
FARMINGTON, CT, December 10, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Global Information, Inc. (GII) presents "STUDY: 4G + Cloud = Innovation & Profits? Vendor Report: Cloud Infrastructure & Solutions for Telecom Operators" by Maravedis, Inc.
4G wireless combined with cloud computing will drive a new wave of innovation and ROI for operator content, services and applications, according to the latest Maravedis market report entitled 4G + Cloud = Innovation and Profits?
Released in November, the Mobile Operator component of the global study identified drivers, challenges, solutions and opportunities for mobile cloud services in 4G mobile operator environments.
Maravedis is now releasing the Vendor Profile component of the global study, which is a result of multiple interviews with vendors and integrators on cloud infrastructure, enabling technology, and professional services for telecom operators.
"While the vendors are taking different approaches to enable the operator cloud, the common theme is the network is essential in enabling carrier-class cloud services to support real-time applications and enterprise cloud services with service level guarantees" said Bill Lesieur, author of the report and Senior Analyst at Maravedis.
"Most of the telecom vendors are focused on exposing network assets and unique telecom capabilities to create more robust and differentiated cloud services to compete against Amazon, Google and other public cloud providers," added Adlane Fellah, Research Director at Maravedis.
"The wild card in the equation for developing operator cloud technology is the use of OpenStack, the open source cloud platform that is attracting the attention of many vendors and operators as the foundation for battling Amazon and Google in cloud services," added Lesieur. "The key question and uncertainty for operators is defining what a carrier-class cloud platform is and what infrastructure and technology is needed to truly enable differentiated cloud services."
The report provides key insights into infrastructure, professional services and enabling technology that IT and telecom vendors are providing to telecom operators to build differentiated cloud capabilities.
Vendors in the report: Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco, Cloudscaling, Ericsson, Hewlett-Packard, Huawei, IBM, Jamcracker, Mavenir, Nokia Siemens Networks, ZTE and others.
